They should be able to figure out whose fan I am.

so, I call my local station to request TSCA and the guy tells me that they only play requests during the noon hour, but the rest of the day, everything is pre-programmed so they can't really play requests !!!   How in the world does that make any sense?!      He also said that as the song moves up on the charts, they will be playing it more.  Now, how is it going to move up on the charts unless they start playing it more and they play it more because we request it !?!?     totally does not make any sense!

What he said is true.

Yes, they play requests only during "request hours". Lunch or midnight. They play it for certain if you call in rather than sending emails (they don't read). And the rest of the day is pre-programed. When the song is in top 30, 20,10,5 they might play it say 3,4,5,6 times a day. They call it "put it into rotation".

At least when you call, you show your interest and it's a bonus. More people call/send emails, they know that people are interested. Make a buzz.
Some songs are just instant hits and they said the phone lines just brighten up. I send emails to all DJs (most importantly program director) with "how much I love this song". Just to show interest. I sent out the Sweet Thing video to all DJs and they replied my emails. One girl even put it up in her blog. This word of mouth thing, we have to do what we can.

I don't think they play songs based on fan requests solely these day; they follow what the suit-people/power be directed/based on charting. How it chart, may be it's the label's job + fan interest.

Only other ting is we participate in surveys/musical director thingy. You can at least vote what we want to hear. But those stations which play a song every hour, I don't know what "deal" they have with that artist.

At least it's a local radio station with local DJs. Imagine if it becomes a syndicated show and all stations playing same thing all over the country.

thats our lovely country radio station for ya. and then you call for noon tunes and you have to have a
"story" and yadda yadda. i call all the time, and John literally lies to me. he'll be like "oh we played him yesterday"... hello? NO you didn't

OH, also .. saturday night's is request time. dunno the excat hours off the top of my head, but the girl who normally does it LOVESSS keith, i call alot then!

Wow you said it Maria!  Lots of stations out there that are Top 40 or worse Top 20!
That's why I always loved Highway 16 on XM, but even now that they are called The Highway they are starting to play some artists and songs more frequently and not delving into the new releases much.  What you said is exactly right.  We need everyone concentrating on their local stations.  Not driving them crazy, just letting them know we love the song and requesting it.  I like letting the music directors know too.  That way maybe they will program the song into their daily rotation a little sooner! It's all about biulding relationships and letting your local radio stations know what a big Keith Urban fan you are.

Ours play him pretty often, I am lucky. Here's the chart for one of them... there's a female DJ during the day that plays him a lot more too... at least every 2-3 hours it seems like.

That is great Jen, that your station plays him that much.  I know some stations are better than others for sure.  Some just stick to that Top 20 rotation!

Till Summer is at #41 this morning so, that looks like it is the chart position for next weeks BillBoard.  Not a bad entry and like we said before it is the slow steady climb that counts!  It is a good time to release a song, because it won't be too affected by the holiday music break!  What will next week bring?  Let's get requesting and work a little magic this weekend too!  The experts say low 30's...let's do it!

BP with American Saturday night is really flying already.  Good thing...I imagine it will be out of our way.

Hey Maria, what do you think about KC falling already?  A fluke or is that song done long before it reaches #1?  I see Lady A is holding on to that top spot again!

It's a blur ...... no offense. I've heard it only once or twice on the radio. At my station, if they don't play between 7-9 a.m., that song is not popular.

Down the Road is much better and more interesting.
This one, it's so mellow and with no melody, it's just lost on the airwaves.
Because it's a duet and difficult to promote??

Luke Bryan future #1?? Capitol Nashville is having a great success this year.

My friend is married to a program manager. He told me once that if he gets too annoyed/irritated with multiple requests for the same song he actually plays it less or quits playing it.

I think you are absolutely right Jen.  I am sure that happens and also, there is more to it then just requests.  That's why you should only request locally and do it tastefully.  I just call or email my stations once a day and I don't bug them.  They know I am going to call and they know me by now.  In fact if I miss for some reason they comment!  They just know I am a huge KU fan!!  BUT, there are a lot of factors that lead to a #1 and whether a song gets played or not!  Luckily, most stations like Keith's music too!

Till Summer is showing up at #37 this morning!  That is good news!!  BP is really pulling ahead with ASN.  He is at #27 with one week ahead release.  At least we won't have to fight him for the top later!!
